The University of Iowa men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Gopher Invitational, held at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota. The Hawkeyes had a strong showing with a total team score of 846, finishing behind Minnesota, Georgia Tech, and Texas Tech.
Leading the way for the Hawkeyes was sophomore Mac McClear, who finished in a tie for fifth place individually with a score of 206. McClear had an impressive tournament, shooting under par in all three rounds. Senior Gonzalo Leal Montero also had a solid performance for Iowa, finishing in a tie for 17th place with a score of 212.
Iowa head coach Tyler Stith was pleased with his team’s performance, noting that the players showed grit and determination throughout the tournament. Stith praised McClear for his consistency and composure under pressure, and Montero for his ability to bounce back after a tough opening round.
