Fatal Crash in Boone County Kills Two Victims Just South of Ogden


Two people were killed and two others were injured in a crash in rural Boone County, Iowa on Monday. The accident involved a pickup truck and an SUV at the intersection of gravel roads G Avenue and 310th Street. The driver of a Volkswagen Taos failed to yield to the right-of-way, causing a collision with a Chevrolet Colorado driven by Javier Hernandez. Hernandez, 39, and his passenger, 62-year-old Amelia Huaracha de Hernandez, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the SUV and another passenger sustained serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals by air ambulance.

The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the crash, and more details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses. This incident is part of a larger trend of road fatalities in Iowa, with 335 deaths reported so far this year, which is 28 fewer than the same point in 2023. Over the past five years, an average of 350 people have been killed annually in crashes statewide.
