Freeman’s impressive performance propels Iowa to victory over Wazzou

Iowa’s Owen Freeman led the Hawkeyes to a 76-66 victory over Washington State with 21 points and 11 rebounds, falling just one point short of his career high. Payton Sandfort added 18 points for the Hawkeyes in the win. Despite Washington State’s Nate Calmese scoring 27 points, Iowa was able to pull away late in the game, thanks to key free throws from Sandfort and Freeman. Iowa struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 8 of 25, while Washington State was only 5 of 28 from 3-point range.

This victory marks Iowa’s fourth win of the season, starting with a perfect 4-0 record. The Hawkeyes have had a strong start in recent seasons, going 5-0 in 2022-23, 7-0 the year before, and 6-0 in 2020-21. This was only the second meeting between Iowa and Washington State, with Iowa also coming out on top back in 1963.

Despite Washington State leading at halftime, Iowa’s strong second-half performance secured the win. Freeman’s dominating performance on both ends of the court was crucial in the victory. With this win, Iowa continues its impressive streak this season, building momentum as they look to continue their success on the court.
