Police say Hamilton College student confessed to posting antisemitic remarks on campus

A 19-year-old Hamilton College student named Adyn S. Brenden from South Dakota has been charged with posting antisemitic remarks on campus. Authorities responded to the private college in upstate New York after receiving a report of the remarks being posted on art canvases. Brenden admitted to posting the remarks and was taken into custody on a count of first-degree aggravated harassment. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday evening. The college has suspended Brenden pending a hearing for his dismissal. Officials state that there is currently no threat against students or faculty at the college. The arrest comes shortly after the Center for Jewish Life at Hamilton College held a vigil marking the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ incursion on Israel. The conflict between Israel and Gaza has triggered protests across the U.S., with many calling for divestment from Israel and companies profiting from the war. The conflict has also led to a rise in reports of antisemitic, Islamophobic, and anti-Palestinian bias incidents in the U.S. It is unclear if the defendant has obtained legal representation.
