Bishop Garrigan Girls Basketball Team Connects with Community at Good Samaritan Society

ALGONA, IA – The Bishop Garrigan girls basketball team recently took a break from their usual pre-game routines to visit residents at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Senior Zoe Montag highlighted the significance of these visits, noting they typically occur before or after state tournament trips. Coach Joe Bartolo, who also manages the nursing home, emphasized building interconnections between students and residents through shared activities.

The team engaged with residents during an intergenerational dice game, aiming to roll doubles while enjoying the support from the community. Montag expressed appreciation for the residents’ encouragement and their connection to Coach Bartolo, who has dedicated over 20 years to caregiving.

Joe Bartolo shared his passion for building relationships with the residents, while resident Tim Mogler praised the caregiving staff. His daughter Emmi underscored her father’s generous nature, illustrating the close-knit community within Good Samaritan.

Joe, who helps lead the girls’ basketball team to recent state titles, believes in the importance of community involvement, a value instilled by his father, John Bartolo. The family’s commitment to nurturing relationships reflects the faith-based mission of Good Samaritan, focused on making everyone feel loved and valued.
