The late Perry High School principal, Dan Marburger, who sacrificed his life to protect students during a school shooting earlier this year, will be honored as the Iowa Hero at the upcoming Iowa-Nebraska “Heroes Game” on November 29th, 2024. Marburger was selected by Pioneer, the title sponsor of the game, and the University of Iowa. Marburger was praised as a hero for putting himself in harm’s way to help students escape from the teenage shooter who opened fire in the school cafeteria. The decision to honor Marburger came after an outpouring of support from the community and fans of the University of Iowa. Marburger’s wife, Elizabeth, expressed their family’s love for Iowa Football and their excitement to represent him at the game. The annual matchup between the Big Ten Conference rivals will kick off at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. The selection of Marburger as this year’s Iowa Hero is seen as a positive way to honor his memory and the Perry community.
