Tragic Accident Claims Life of Spirit Lake Man in Winnebago County

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) – A fatal car accident on Saturday, July 5, has resulted in the death of 21-year-old David Raak from Spirit Lake. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Iowa 9, near 150th Avenue, involving three vehicles.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, both David Raak and his father, 64-year-old David Raak, were traveling west when 95-year-old Leroy Weaver of Buffalo Center crossed the center line. Weaver’s vehicle sideswiped the elder Raak’s vehicle before striking the younger Raak’s vehicle head-on, leading to David Raak’s tragic death.

Kayla Hudelson, 21, from Belle Fourche, South Dakota, was ejected during the crash and taken to the hospital, with her condition currently unknown. The other drivers involved were also hospitalized.
