Boulder Jewish Festival Enhances Security Measures Following Recent Attack

Boulder Jewish Festival to Focus on Healing After Recent Attack

BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder Jewish Festival, entering its 30th year, will take place Sunday at the Pearl Street pedestrian mall, emphasizing community healing in the wake of a violent incident last weekend. During a "Run for Their Lives" demonstration advocating for the release of Israeli hostages, a man threw Molotov cocktails at protesters, injuring 15 and frightening the community.

In response, festival organizers have reimagined the event to highlight the group’s cause, drawing attention to the 55 individuals still believed to be held captive in Gaza. Miri Kornfeld, a festival organizer, stated, “Run for Their Lives will be front and center,” acknowledging the community’s need for solidarity and celebration after the attack.

Local authorities, including the Boulder Police Department and FBI, are enhancing security measures, deploying drones and plainclothes officers to ensure safety. The suspect, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault, while his family remains in U.S. custody.

Governor Jared Polis has labeled the incident as antisemitic, underscoring the broader context of rising tensions in the Israel-Hamas conflict. Festival attendees are expected to unite in solidarity, honoring victims and fostering resilience within the community.
