Cold Weather Ahead for Iowa with Chance of Snow
Iowa is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures this week, following a pleasant fall weekend. Meteorologist Dylan Dodson of the National Weather Service (NWS) reports that rain today will usher in much colder weather, with a possibility of snow in some regions by midweek.
While the Dakotas anticipate over four inches of snow, Dodson reassures Iowans that snowfall amounts will be much lighter, although flurries may make an appearance on Wednesday. In addition to colder temperatures, the state faces a risk of severe thunderstorms later today, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour. While the chances of tornadoes remain slim, Dodson notes that they cannot be entirely ruled out, even as we enter the final months of the year.
Adding to the stormy backdrop, the NWS recently confirmed an EF0 tornado that touched down near Bloomfield on November 5th. This event marks a notable milestone in the state’s weather history, contributing to a record total of 125 confirmed tornadoes in Iowa this year, the highest number ever recorded.
