Tesla issues recall for 1.8 million vehicles due to unlatched hood problem

Tesla has issued a recall for over 1.8 million vehicles due to reports of hoods unintentionally popping open. The issue was discovered after reports from drivers in China about “unintended hood opening events.” The company found deformed hood latch switches that could prevent notification of an open hood state, leading to the recall. No injuries or deaths have been reported due to this issue, but driving with an unlatched hood could obstruct the driver’s view and increase the risk of a collision. The recalled vehicles include certain Tesla Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y vehicles. Tesla has released an over-the-air software update to address the problem. This recall is Tesla’s ninth of the year and the fourth affecting more than 1 million vehicles since 2022. Additionally, Tesla remains under federal investigation following a report that found its Autopilot system contributed to numerous collisions, including fatalities and serious injuries.
