Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed over 180 bills into law this year, with most taking effect on July 1. However, some laws will go into effect at the start of the new year on Jan. 1, 2025. One such law, House File 674, will see an increase in fees for various vehicle registration and titling needs. Applications for initial registration and issuance of certificates of title for vehicles will increase from $20 to $30, among other fee changes. Senate File 262, set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2025, focuses on consumer data protection, giving consumers rights to their personal data and requiring controllers to disclose data collection and obtain consent.
Another law, Senate File 345, will add regulations for selling tobacco products, requiring retailers to have permits to continue selling and ensuring that products are not visible to those under 21 years old. These new laws will have a significant impact on vehicle owners, consumers, and tobacco retailers in Iowa. The full list of bills passed by the 90th Iowa General Assembly in 2024 is available for review.
