Stephanie Steiner: A Unique Candidate in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District Race
Rural Sutherland, Iowa – Congressional candidate Stephanie Steiner is breaking the mold of traditional party politics as she seeks to represent a broad spectrum of constituents in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Describing herself as "a little more purple than I am blue or red," Steiner emphasizes her commitment to fiscal responsibility, the Second Amendment, and advocating for the LGBTQ community—a cause personal to her as a mother of three LGBTQ children.
“I supported that community long before they ever came out to me,” Steiner states, advocating for respect and equal rights for all. Her dedication to health care is driven by personal experience; after her ex-husband succumbed to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in 2019, she struggled to secure necessary medical support for him during his final months.
Steiner criticizes policies backed by Iowa’s Republican congressional delegation, including President Trump’s "Big Beautiful Bill," which she argues would jeopardize health insurance for over 93,000 Iowans. As the most conservative district in the state, Steiner acknowledges the challenge of her campaign but aims to engage directly with all constituents, particularly those who identify as Republican. “I’m hoping I can reach them where they live,” she says, pledging to fight for issues that matter to the community, including health care and education.
Steiner faces competition from fellow Democrat Ashley WolfTornabane and incumbent Republican Rep. Randy Feenstra, who is contemplating a gubernatorial run. Other Republican candidates include Chris McGowan and Iowa House Majority Leader Matt Windschitl.
As the campaign unfolds, Steiner remains focused on fostering inclusive dialogue and addressing the needs of all families in her district. The 4th Congressional District encompasses 36 counties, including Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Ames, and Marshalltown.
