Jeff Kaufmann Unanimously Reelected as Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa
Jeff Kaufmann was unanimously reelected Saturday for a sixth consecutive two-year term as chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa, a position he has held since 2014. Under his leadership, the Iowa GOP has not only gained control of the state government but has also secured Iowa’s congressional delegation. "If you like winning, I’ll gladly receive your vote," Kaufmann stated, highlighting his intention to support Republican candidates in general elections.
Looking ahead to the 2026 midterm elections, Kaufmann emphasized the importance of highlighting former President Donald Trump’s accomplishments and aligning with his agenda. "I clearly feel that I have a mandate…to hitch my wagon to the Trump agenda," he remarked, underscoring the confidence he has in continuing to lead the party in this direction. Trump expressed his endorsement of Kaufmann ahead of the vote, praising his record of fostering Republican successes in Iowa during recent elections.
In discussing his decision to run for reelection, Kaufmann noted the need to defend Iowa’s status as the first state in the Republican presidential nominating process. He expressed a preference to remain in Iowa working with local Republicans rather than seeking a role in Washington, D.C.
As the party prepares for the 2026 midterms, Kaufmann acknowledged the historical challenges faced by the incumbent’s party and emphasized his determination to make this election cycle an exception. He also pledged to strengthen outreach efforts to minority groups and focus on maintaining Republican success in suburban and rural Iowa, as well as seeking gains in urban areas.
Rita Hart continues to lead the Iowa Democratic Party following her reelection in January.
