Three University of Iowa football players have been named first-team All-Americans by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA). Linebacker Jay Higgins, running back Kaleb Johnson, and punt returner Kaden Wetjen were honored for their outstanding performances. Higgins, in particular, has solidified consensus All-America status and is close to becoming a unanimous selection.
The University of Iowa is the only school in the country to have three first-team FWAA All-Americans this year. The Hawkeyes have a streak of 12 consecutive seasons with FWAA All-Americans, the second longest active streak in the nation. In the last four seasons, Iowa has produced 11 FWAA All-Americans, second only to Georgia.
Higgins, who also received multiple other All-American honors, has been a standout player for the Hawkeyes, leading the team in tackles and interceptions. His impressive performances have earned him recognition as the Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year. Iowa’s defense, led by Higgins, is ranked ninth nationally.
