The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) and campus partners recently hosted the Fall Community Meal in the Great Hall in the Memorial Union at Iowa State University. The event, aimed at providing support to students, faculty, staff, and community members over the break, featured a traditional American Thanksgiving meal with halal and vegan options also available. Attendees enjoyed a Kahoot game and other activities, with over 500 people benefitting from the event. Jenna Haffner, the International Student Engagement Coordinator for ISSO, highlighted the importance of reducing isolation, building connections, and providing a free meal option for food-insecure individuals during the holidays. The event, which first began in 2014 with only a few dozen attendees, has since grown in popularity with attendance increasing each year. Students like Ristu Regmi and Anusha Sharma appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food at the event, calling for more winter-related activities in future editions.
