An Iowa man has been charged for the second time for posting flyers threatening to hunt illegal immigrants. The man, Joseph Ross, was previously charged in 2019 for similar offenses. The flyers, which were found posted in Des Moines, contained statements such as “hunt down illegal immigrants” and “keep Iowa clean.”
Ross has been charged with one count of harassment and one count of trespassing for posting the flyers. He is currently being held in Polk County Jail on a $2,000 bond. The charges come after law enforcement received multiple complaints regarding the offensive and threatening messages on the flyers.
This is not the first time Ross has faced legal trouble for his actions. In 2019, he was charged with third-degree harassment for posting flyers with similar messages in Ankeny. Ross pleaded guilty to the charges and was ordered to pay a fine.
The recent charges against Ross highlight the ongoing issue of hate speech and intolerance towards immigrants in the United States. Advocacy groups have condemned Ross’ actions as dangerous and divisive, and have called for stronger measures to combat hate speech and protect immigrant communities.
Local authorities are urging anyone who comes across similar flyers or experiences harassment based on their immigration status to report the incidents immediately. The case against Ross is ongoing, and he is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.
