Alberta has received more than $21.9 million in federal funding through PrairiesCan to support the commercialization of innovative technologies that benefit both the economy and the environment. This investment will help bolster the clean technology sector in Alberta and support the adoption of new applications that offer environmental benefits across various industries.
The funding will support 13 projects in Alberta, including initiatives such as launching a production and testing facility for low-cost carbon fiber production, supporting the growth of the battery metals sector, enhancing carbon management technology validation facilities, and expanding automated methane monitoring products and software. These projects are expected to create over 415 jobs and enable Alberta firms to meet the growing demand for clean energy solutions in the market.
The investments align with the government’s commitment to building a green Prairie economy, focusing on clean resource development, agriculture, manufacturing, and the service industry. By supporting the development and commercialization of new technologies, the government aims to create sustainable jobs and drive innovation in Alberta’s clean technology and energy sectors.
The Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy, tabled in Parliament in December 2023, supports regional investment opportunities such as advancing the hydrogen ecosystem, critical minerals opportunities, sustainable agriculture, and community economic development capacity. The investments through PrairiesCan will enable Alberta to lead in clean technology innovation and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future for the province.
