Iowa’s Historic Day

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds made history by appointing Chris Cournoyer as the state’s next lieutenant governor, marking the first time in Iowa’s nearly 178-year history that women have held the positions of governor and lieutenant governor simultaneously. Cournoyer, a former state senator from LeClaire, replaces Adam Gregg, who resigned to lead the Iowa Bankers Association.

The appointment of Cournoyer as lieutenant governor is a significant moment in Iowa’s political history, further solidifying Governor Reynolds’ place as a trailblazing figure in the state’s government. The historic move showcases the state’s commitment to diversity and female leadership in politics. Governor Reynolds’ decision reflects her dedication to bringing new voices and perspectives to state leadership roles.
