Two people were arrested in Washington for child endangerment after police found a house filled with animals, trash, and deceased animals. The four children found in the home were taken into the care of the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. The police described the scene as gruesome, with animal feces and urine covering the floors, and trash piled high in the basement.
In response to the situation, city officials launched a last-minute gift drive to gather Christmas gifts for the displaced children. The campaign aims to brighten the holiday season for the children who were removed from their home. Donations of new and unwrapped gifts such as clothing, shoes, school supplies, hygiene products, non-perishable snacks, and toys for girls aged 3, 5, and 11 can be dropped off at Washington City Hall from Dec. 21-23.
The city officials hope to deliver the gifts to the children before Christmas and are grateful for the support from the community in helping these children in need.
