Trump declares that owning Greenland is a crucial requirement

President-elect Donald Trump has expressed interest in the U.S. acquiring Greenland, which is currently owned by Denmark. Trump believes that controlling Greenland is vital for national security and freedom worldwide. However, Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, has firmly rejected the idea, stating that Greenland is not for sale.

This is not the first time Trump has considered purchasing Greenland. In 2019, he mentioned the possibility but Denmark stated that Greenland was not for sale. This led Trump to cancel a scheduled trip to the country. Former officials have also revealed that Trump considered swapping Greenland for Puerto Rico, calling the latter “dirty” and its people “poor.”

Greenland, located between the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, is the largest island in the world. While most of Greenland is ice-covered, it is inhabited by about 57,000 people. The U.S. has previously explored buying Greenland in 1867 and 1946, but Denmark rejected both offers.

Overall, Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland has sparked controversy and opposition from the territory’s government. It remains to be seen whether any further discussions or negotiations will take place regarding the potential purchase of Greenland by the U.S.
