The Halal Guys, a popular fast-casual restaurant chain offering American Halal cuisine, recently opened its first location in Iowa in Coralville. The franchise, known for its falafel platters, gyros, and Middle Eastern fare, officially opened on Dec. 21, 2024, at 3220 Redhawk St. The new location is owned and operated by local franchisees who have been friends for over 20 years since immigrating to Iowa together. The opening marks the first of five planned locations in Iowa, with plans for stores in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Des Moines.
The restaurant, founded in 1990, has quickly grown to over 100 locations internationally and is now expanding rapidly with 400 more locations in development worldwide. The menu offers a variety of platters, sandwiches, and desserts, including baklava and baklava cheesecake. The Coralville location also features fried chicken wings tossed in barbecue sauce. The chain’s chief development officer expressed excitement about joining the Coralville community and introducing new customers to their delicious American Halal food.
