The decision follows the November stabbing death of a teenager after a quarrel that began on social media apps. Rama emphasized that the ban was not a rushed reaction but a carefully considered decision made in consultation with parent communities and teachers across the country. TikTok requested clarity from the Albanian government regarding the incident, stating they found no evidence linking the tragedy to their platform. However, Rama blamed TikTok for promoting negativity and threats to youth. While many Albanian children are avid TikTok users and oppose the ban, parents are increasingly worried about the impact of the app on their children’s behavior. Rama stressed that the decision is clear: either TikTok protects Albanian children or Albania will protect them from the platform.
