Lotus Wireless Technologies (LWT) India, in partnership with the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), has introduced India’s first commercial-scale Medium Voltage Solid State Transformer (SST) technology. This innovation is targeted towards supporting applications like megawatt-scale medium voltage input superfast chargers for electric vehicles (EVs), with the potential to revolutionize EV charging by reducing charging times from hours to minutes.
The SST technology was recently showcased at LWT’s Autonagar, Aganampudi plant, with the inauguration of a Power Electronics lab by Dr. Friederich Kupzog, Head of Energy at AIT, Vienna. Dr. Kupzog highlighted the importance of this collaborative achievement, emphasizing how it combines India’s engineering and manufacturing strengths with Austria’s innovative expertise to advance energy technologies globally.
Dr. Kaushik Basu from the Indian Institute of Science commended the development of the medium-voltage Solid State Transformer as a significant milestone for India, showcasing the power of partnerships between academic institutions and industry to foster indigenous capabilities in advanced technologies. Binu S. Pillai, Director R&D at LWT, noted that this innovation meets the global need for efficient solutions in fast charging, marine electrification, and aviation systems, while also supporting India’s goal of producing high-quality, sustainable energy solutions.
Furthermore, nominations for the ET MSME Awards are currently open until December 15, 2024, offering businesses the opportunity to submit entries across 22 categories for a chance to win prestigious accolades.
