The Iowa Department of Education recently released the 2023-24 Iowa School Performance Profiles, with most N’West Iowa public schools receiving “Commendable” ratings. However, some schools stood out, including East Elementary in Sheldon earning an “Exceptional” rating, and Central Lyon Elementary and Secondary School, Boyden-Hull Elementary, and others receiving “High Performing” ratings.
South O’Brien Junior/Senior High School in Paullina improved from a “Commendable” rating to “High Performing,” with the elementary school also showing growth. In Rock Valley, all schools saw an increase in ratings, with the middle and high schools earning “Commendable” ratings. South O’Brien’s superintendent and principal attributed the improvement to hard work from staff and students.
On the other hand, Kinsey Elementary in Sioux Center School District dropped to a “Needs Improvement” rating, the lowest in N’West Iowa. The school plans to implement new reading resources and The Science of Reading curriculum to address the low scores in English language learners.
Overall, educators in N’West Iowa are focused on continuous improvement and helping all students succeed. Despite challenges, schools are determined to provide quality education and support to their students. They are committed to building strong relationships and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, achieve, and grow.
