Iowa Central Strives to Maintain High Level of Achievement | Latest News, Sports Coverage, Employment Opportunities

Under the leadership of head coach Sara Horn, the Iowa Central volleyball program has established itself as one of the top teams in Div. II junior college. The Tritons had a successful season last year, finishing in the Top-5 at nationals for the third time in a row. With mostly sophomore starters, Iowa Central has shown consistency in their performance, claiming eight combined ICCAC regular season titles and Region XI crowns.

Olivia Sturgis and Emily Goodner, former Manson Northwest Webster players, are key returning players for the Tritons. Sturgis, a second team all-region player as a freshman, and Goodner had impressive stats last season. They are joined by other returning starters and key players, such as Araya Garrison, Olivia Benson, and Natalie Hagadon.

The team also welcomes new talent, including Addi Hindt from Southeast Valley, Avery Dreyer from Humboldt, and Maddison Kaiser from Eagle Grove. Freshmen Talya Sampson, Dena Robb, and Anabel Seaman have stood out in preseason training.

The Tritons have a strong record since 2021, with at least 20 wins every year since 2013. They start the season ranked seventh in the preseason poll and are favored to win the conference ahead of rivals Kirkwood and Des Moines Area. Former Iowa Central All-American Gabby Marker continues to assist Horn in coaching the team.

The Tritons will kick off their season with a road trip before their home opener at Hodges Fieldhouse. With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, Iowa Central looks poised for another successful season on the volleyball court.
