Governor Reynolds of Iowa has announced that over $10 million in grants has been awarded to opioid treatment and recovery providers in several cities across the state. This funding is part of a statewide effort to improve facilities and develop sober-living housing options for those impacted by the opioid epidemic.
Six organizations, including the Abbe Center for Community Mental Health and Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, have been awarded over $8 million in grants to expand and enhance their treatment and recovery facilities. Additionally, nearly $2 million has been awarded to organizations in Des Moines, Davenport, and Oskaloosa to purchase properties for sober-living recovery housing.
The funding, which comes from the Iowa Housing Recovery Program and leverages federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, aims to provide long-term housing security for individuals in recovery from substance use disorder, as well as survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
This initiative is being administered by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Iowa Finance Authority. A full list of awards can be found on their respective websites.
