Eastern Iowa is bracing for more snow on Thursday as another round of winter weather moves through the region. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for northern Iowa, where the heaviest snowfall is expected. Meanwhile, Minnesota and Wisconsin are also experiencing heavier snow accumulation.
The snow is expected to continue falling throughout the afternoon and evening, creating slick road conditions for the evening commute. Snowfall totals are projected to range from 1-3 inches, with some areas in northeast Iowa possibly seeing over 4 inches. Minor accumulations and isolated slick spots are also possible in areas further south towards Highway 30.
Temperatures to the south and west are likely to remain above freezing, with a potential mix of rain and snow or just rain in some areas. The precipitation is expected to taper off by 9 pm, with flurries possible overnight. Strong winds gusting up to 35 mph could lead to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility and maintaining slippery road conditions.
By Friday morning, temperatures are forecasted to drop into the teens and low 20s, with wind chills in the single digits. Residents are advised to exercise caution while driving and be prepared for winter weather conditions. Stay updated on road conditions and plan accordingly to ensure safety during the winter storm.
