Saudi Arabia Airports Launches World’s Largest Technology Rollout for Passenger Flow

Saudi Arabia is enhancing its airport technology and innovation with the implementation of an advanced LiDAR and passenger flow management system at all 27 airports in the country. This project, led by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and airport operator MATARAT, is the largest of its kind globally.

SAMI Advanced Electronics and DTP have partnered to deliver this solution, which utilizes Veovo’s Queue and Flow Management system and DTP’s tNexus smart mobile platform. This collaboration offers insights into passenger movement, dwell times, and queuing patterns within terminals, aiming to improve efficiency and passenger experience.

Abdulaziz Aldahmash from GACA stated that this initiative will revolutionize the passenger experience in Saudi airports, providing transparency and efficiency in operations. The system analyzes passenger flow using data from LiDAR sensors, cameras, and WiFi technology to address bottlenecks in key areas such as check-in, security, and immigration.

The solution also allows for proactive action to prevent congestion, recommend optimal processing lines based on real-time data, and support ongoing performance improvement. It is being phased in over the next 18 months, with technology already in place at Jeddah and Riyadh airports. Saudi Arabia aims to lead the region in airport technology with this state-of-the-art queue management system, ensuring consistent and efficient operations across its airports.
