KCCI interviews Gov. Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Cournoyer together for the first time

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has appointed Chris Cournoyer as the state’s new Lieutenant Governor, following the resignation of former Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg. Cournoyer, a mother of four and fifth-generation Iowan, brings expertise in business, innovation, and technology to the role. She has previously served in the Iowa Senate and has a background in education, stemming from her experience as a school board member and substitute teacher. Cournoyer’s interest in politics was sparked by the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting, leading her to advocate for school safety measures.

Governor Reynolds believes Cournoyer will be instrumental in addressing priorities such as energy, infrastructure, and maternal health in 2025. The pair share a commitment to making a positive impact and leaving things better than they found them. Reynolds is currently working with Senate leadership to schedule a special election to fill Cournoyer’s Senate seat.

In a recent interview with KCCI, Cournoyer expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Lieutenant Governor and highlighted her dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of Iowa’s children. Her background in both the public and private sectors equips her to contribute valuable insights and drive meaningful change in the state. Together, Reynolds and Cournoyer aim to collaborate on initiatives that will benefit the people of Iowa.
