Volunteers Needed for the Chris Street Basketball Tournament in Iowa

The Chris Street Basketball tournament in Iowa is seeking volunteers for this year’s event, which honors the memory of the late Chris Street, a promising player for the Iowa men’s basketball team who tragically died in a car crash in 1993. The tournament will take place at Indianola High School in Indianola, where Street once played.

In recent years, the number of teams participating in the tournament had decreased to around 30, but this year, over 100 teams are taking part with 20 more on the waiting list. The Indianola Athletic Booster Club attributes this increase to their collaboration with the “Iowa Suns” Basketball Club and their marketing efforts to promote the event. Teams from third grade to eighth grade from both in and outside of Iowa are set to compete in the tournament, which will be held this Saturday.

The event has garnered significant interest and response, making it a much-anticipated and well-attended occasion. Organizers are hopeful that the community will come together to support and celebrate the legacy of Chris Street through this basketball tournament. Those interested in getting involved can volunteer to ensure the smooth running of the event. For more information and updates, visit KCCI’s website. Copyright 2024 KCCI. All rights reserved.
