President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his plans to implement tariffs and fulfill his top campaign promises in his first days in office during an interview with NBC News’ Meet The Press. Trump discussed his intentions to deport undocumented immigrants, issue pardons for Jan. 6 rioters, extend tax cuts, and keep Dreamers in the country legally.
Despite previously threatening retribution against his perceived enemies, including President Joe Biden, Trump stated that he will focus on success rather than the past. He maintained his commitment to imposing heavy tariffs on top trading partners like Mexico, Canada, and China, dismissing concerns about increased consumer prices.
Trump also addressed his plans for immigration, stating that mass deportations of undocumented individuals would start with convicted criminals. He expressed a desire to find a solution for Dreamers and indicated he would not restrict access to abortion pills.
Furthermore, Trump discussed plans to cut federal spending through the Department of Government Efficiency but assured that Social Security and Medicare would remain untouched. Health care reform and immigration enforcement remained key priorities for the incoming administration.
