Three men tragically lost their lives in a boating accident on Sunday morning while fishing on the Mississippi River in Bellevue, Iowa. The victims were fishing underneath Lock and Dam No. 12 when their boat capsized in hazardous waters created by the dam’s operations.
The incident, which occurred around 11 a.m., resulted in two of the men being confirmed dead at the scene, while the third was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has not released the names of the victims pending notification of their families.
The Iowa DNR is currently investigating the incident and received assistance from various agencies including the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Bellevue Fire and Rescue, and Illinois DNR. News 8 will continue to provide updates on this tragic event as more information becomes available.
