Iowa’s Wetjen Named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week | Latest News on Sports and Jobs

University of Iowa senior return specialist Kaden Wetjen has been named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after his outstanding performance in the Hawkeye football team’s Homecoming victory over Northwestern. Wetjen, hailing from Williamsburg, finished with 176 return yards, including an impressive 85-yard punt return for a touchdown. This was Wetjen’s career long punt return and the seventh longest in program history.

Having recorded three consecutive games with over 100 return yards, Wetjen has become the first Iowa player since at least 1978 to achieve this milestone. He currently leads the country with 692 combined kick return yards and ranks eighth in punt returns and 12th in kickoff returns. Wetjen is also a candidate for the Jet Award, recognizing college football’s top return specialist.

This season, Wetjen is one of 40 players nationally to return a punt for a touchdown. This is Wetjen’s third Big Ten weekly honor this season, following Kaleb Johnson and Aaron Graves who were recognized earlier for their performances. Wetjen’s exceptional skills and consistency on the field have earned him well-deserved recognition and accolades within the conference and the entire country. As the Hawkeyes continue their successful season, Wetjen’s contributions to the team’s victories have not gone unnoticed.
