Iowa wrestling’s dominant performance at the Journeyman “Uncivil War” event in St. Charles, Missouri saw them defeat Princeton 39-3 and Army 23-16. The Hawkeyes were led by a string of bonus point wins, including technical falls and major decisions, showcasing their strength and depth across weight classes. The meet marked Tom Brands’ 300th coaching win. Despite facing adversity in the Army dual, with three early losses, Iowa rallied in the second half with relentless offense to secure the victory. Notable performances included standout wins from Kyle Parco, Michael Caliendo, and Stephen Buchanan. The wrestlers demonstrated resilience, turning the tide when faced with challenges and securing decisive wins. Overall, Iowa claimed 15 out of 20 matches and showcased an aggressive and attacking style that translated into bonus points and match victories. Looking ahead, Iowa will compete in the Soldier Salute tournament before their Big Ten opener against Wisconsin in January. Despite their success, the team aims to fine-tune their performance, particularly in the lower weight classes, as they continue their quest for more victories.
