The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has released its fishing report for the week of Dec. 5, 2024 for southwest Iowa. Lake Anita in Cass County is a great spot for ice fishing, with a healthy panfish population. Meadow Lake in Adair County is also recommended for winter fishing, with 8-inch bluegill and good numbers of 9-inch black crappies. Prairie Rose Lake in Shelby County has been excellent for ice fishing since its renovation, with large bluegill and decent crappie populations. Viking Lake in Montgomery County is another good option for crappie fishing, with bluegills averaging 7.5 inches.
In Union County, Three Mile Lake has a low water level and boat ramp lanes out of the water, while Twelve Mile Lake has removed its dock for winter. West Lake in Clarke County has seen a slight increase in water level, but is still below normal. Most Mount Ayr district lakes are partially covered in ice, with docks removed for the winter.
