The Jackson County Master Gardeners recently held a meeting where they received updates on tree damage in the area caused by windstorms and tornadoes in 2009 and 2011. Park manager Carl Barnes shared information about the damage and announced that the group will be planting trees in the park in celebration of their 30th anniversary in 2012.
During the meeting, Jerry Akins gave a presentation on plant propagation, providing valuable information to the members. The organization also recognized Jack Remick for completing the requirements to become a Master Gardener and presented him with a certificate to commemorate the achievement.
The upcoming February meeting will feature Sheila Reed, an employee of the National Park Service at Russell Cave National Monument, who will discuss wild edible plants and berries.
