Svetlana Dali, a woman who officials say boarded a flight from New York to Paris without a ticket during the Thanksgiving holiday, has been charged with being a stowaway. She appeared in federal court in Brooklyn and could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Dali bypassed security and ticketing checkpoints before boarding the plane without a ticket, but did complete a full security screening. Delta employees realized she was not supposed to be on the flight before it landed in Paris, where she was detained and denied entry to the country. She was removed from her return flight to the U.S. after causing a disturbance and ultimately admitted to taking the flight without a boarding pass. TSA officials emphasized that while Dali was able to bypass multiple levels of security, she was still screened and her actions were rare and difficult to accomplish. Dali’s attorney stated that she is a permanent U.S. resident and that officials are trying to locate her address in Pennsylvania. Dali is currently being detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and is set to return to court for further proceedings.
