Central Iowa woman faces charges following bathtub drowning of toddler son

A tragic incident has resulted in criminal charges for a West Des Moines woman, Kayla Bevar, after her 20-month-old son drowned in the bathtub. Bevar admitted to police that she had left her child alone in the bath for short increments of time before falling asleep on October 31st. She woke up to find her son unconscious in the overflowing tub and immediately called 911. She is facing charges of child endangerment resulting in death and was booked into the Polk County jail on a $1 million bond.

The incident has shocked the community and raised questions about parental responsibility and supervision. Authorities are reminding caregivers of the importance of constant supervision when children are around water, as even a brief moment of distraction can have devastating consequences. The tragic loss of this young child serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers that can arise when safety measures are not prioritized.
