Iowa State cross country freshman Joash Ruto has been named the Big 12 Conference Men’s Newcomer of the Year. Ruto’s impressive performance at the NCAA Championships helped the Cyclones secure a runner-up finish, with him finishing 34th individually. Prior to the national championship meet, Ruto finished 13th individually at the Big 12 Championship, helping the team to a third place finish. Ruto will now transition to the indoor track and field season with Iowa State. The Cyclones will begin their regular season action at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.
