Iowa’s Thanksgiving Tradition: Pheasant Hunting in the Great Outdoors

[ad_1]
Iowa hunters are gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday tradition of pheasant hunting, with favorable weather conditions expected. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) encourages hunters to take advantage of this opportunity, especially in northern Iowa where pheasant counts are higher. The DNR offers an apprentice license for new hunters to try out the sport under the guidance of a mentor. Last year, over 83,000 hunters harvested over 590,000 roosters, contributing to an estimated economic impact of $180 million in Iowa.

The Iowa DNR and Pheasants Forever are commemorating 100 years of pheasant hunting in the state, with the first season held in 1925. Information on hunting locations, roadside survey results, and more can be found online. This Thanksgiving, Iowans are encouraged to continue the tradition of pheasant hunting and pass along the sport to new generations.
