Candidates for the Iowa Senate District 26 race were highlighted today in response to questionnaires sent out by the T-R in preparation for the upcoming general election on Nov. 5. Republican nominee Kara Warme and Democrat Mike Wolfe are contending for the Senate seat soon to be vacated by retiring Sen. Jeff Edler. Warme, residing in rural Ames, has a background in leadership at YSS and aims to advocate for Iowa’s agriculture and small businesses, along with strengthening education. Wolfe, hailing from rural Maxwell, is a project estimator for a local mechanical contractor and prioritizes listening to and speaking up for the interests of Iowans.
Both candidates shared their thoughts on various topics in the questionnaires, including education funding, taxation, budget priorities, AEA reform, book censorship in schools, gender identity legislation, and abortion policies. Warme expressed support for the current direction the state is heading in, while Wolfe focused on the negative impacts of recent legislative decisions on public education and personal freedom.
Their responses shed light on their qualifications, with Warme highlighting her advocacy for education and small businesses, while Wolfe emphasized his problem-solving skills honed in his career as an estimator. The candidates also voiced differing opinions on issues such as AEA reform, private school vouchers, book censorship, gender identity legislation, and abortion restrictions. The complete responses will be featured in an upcoming edition of the T-R. Additionally, a candidate forum hosted by the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce will provide an opportunity for voters to hear directly from the candidates on their stances.
