The Iowa Board of Massage Therapy recently revoked the license of a woman, Jing Xie, after discovering that she had falsified her license application. Xie had applied for an Iowa massage therapy license in April 2022, claiming she had no previous licensing discipline in another state. However, in April 2023, information from the National Practitioner Data Bank revealed that she had failed to disclose a criminal conviction and a surrender of her license in Nevada. Xie had been convicted of “attempted conspiracy solicitation” related to her massage therapy practice in Kansas and had concealed this information when applying for licensure in Nevada.
The Iowa board filed charges against Xie in April 2024 for fraudulently obtaining a license, but Xie failed to appear at a hearing on the matter. As a result, her Iowa license was revoked. Xie currently resides in California, but it is unclear where she practiced in Iowa. This incident follows a similar case from last year when the Iowa Board of Massage Therapy mistakenly granted a license to a man with a history of sex crimes. The board’s actions highlight the need for continued vigilance in vetting massage therapists to protect the public from potential harm.
