Frigid wind chills kick off Black Friday shopping

Iowa is bracing for arctic temperatures as a cold airmass settles into the state, bringing widespread highs in the 20s through Monday. While a small system tracking southwest of Iowa may bring light snow accumulations to southern and southwestern areas early Saturday, most of this will be out of the viewing area. Morning lows over the next five days are expected to be in the low teens, with wind chills in the single digits above and below zero on Friday morning. However, the cold snap will not last forever, as the arctic high pressure is expected to shift southeast by mid-week, bringing temperatures back to more seasonable levels in the mid-40s by Wednesday and Thursday. The weather forecast for Iowa includes partly cloudy skies today, with a high of 29F and winds from the west-northwest at 10 to 20 mph. Tonight will see a low of 15F with winds from the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Tomorrow is expected to be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow and a high of 29F, with winds shifting from southeast to north around 10 mph. Tomorrow night will be partly cloudy with a low of 12F and winds from the north at 5 to 10 mph.
