Federal Funds Awarded to Iowa to Assist in Food Distribution

Twenty-four small and mid-sized farms, food processors, and distributors in Iowa are set to benefit from grants totaling nearly three million dollars to enhance local food supply chains. The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program, with Giselle Bruskewitz on the state steering committee, will allocate close to one million dollars to support the state’s wholesale food hubs. This initiative aims to provide more options and strengthen the local food system in Iowa.

Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and supported by the US Department of Agriculture, this program is a critical investment in promoting food security and sustainability within the state. The grants will help participating farms and businesses improve their infrastructure and operations, ultimately leading to a more resilient and robust local food supply chain.

This significant funding injection highlights the importance of supporting local and regional food systems in building a more sustainable and secure food supply for all Iowans.
