Democratic lawmakers received bomb threats at their homes on Thanksgiving

[ad_1]
Five Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut, including Sen. Chris Murphy and Reps. Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Jahana Hayes, were targeted by bomb threats on their homes on Thursday. Although police found no evidence of explosives, the threats were deemed serious. This incident occurred a day after several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks and appointees also reported receiving bomb threats and “swatting attacks.”

The FBI is currently investigating these incidents in partnership with other agencies. The threats come in the wake of an election season marred by violence, including a shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania and an attempted assassination at Trump’s golf course in Florida.

Lawmakers expressed their gratitude to law enforcement for their quick response and condemned political violence. The threats were not isolated to Connecticut, as other prominent figures, including Rep. Elise Stefanik and former congressman Lee Zeldin, also reported receiving similar threats. Despite the threats, officials are calling for peace and civility during the holiday season.
