A worker was seriously injured after receiving an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The 22-year-old man, a contractor for NZ Power Wash, was using a 34-foot pole to string up lights when it came in contact with an electrical line on a utility pole. He collapsed and was found unconscious, not breathing, and in cardiac arrest. Police used an automated external defibrillator to get his heart beating before rushing him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man is currently recovering in Massachusetts General Hospital.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident along with local authorities. The victim’s coworker, who witnessed the incident, declined to comment. The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments expressed their thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family.
The man’s injuries were described as severe, and his survival was uncertain at the time of the incident. The accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of working with electricity and the importance of following safety protocols. The investigation will determine the circumstances that led to the incident and if any safety regulations were violated.
