Three key points from Dayton’s defeat to Iowa State in Maui Invitational

[ad_1]
In a close match-up, the Dayton Flyers suffered a tough loss to the Iowa State Cyclones in the Maui Invitational, falling 64-58. Despite a strong offensive performance, Dayton struggled to contain Iowa State’s offense in the second half, allowing the Cyclones to score on 11 straight possessions. The Flyers’ defensive struggles proved costly as they fell short once again after a narrow loss to North Carolina the previous day.

Dayton did find success from beyond the arc, hitting 38.9% of their 3-point attempts, with Enoch Cheeks leading the charge with three 3-pointers. However, it was Iowa State’s Keshon Gilbert who made the difference, scoring 24 points, including 12 from the free-throw line. Gilbert’s performance helped Iowa State secure the win and advance in the tournament.

Looking ahead, Dayton will face No. 2 Connecticut in the seventh-place game, hoping to bounce back from their back-to-back losses. Coach Grant praised his team’s effort and offensive performance but emphasized the need to improve defensively in order to elevate their game. Despite the setbacks, the Flyers remain focused on learning and growing as they continue to challenge themselves against tough competition.
