Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds recently pardoned two turkeys, Caitlin and Clark, at the Terrace Hill Governor’s mansion in Des Moines. The turkeys, from Golden Prairie Turkeys, were spared from the Thanksgiving dinner table for the second year in a row. Governor Reynolds highlighted the significance of the holiday and mentioned the first recognition of turkey producers by Governor Robert Ray in 1976. The farm owner, Brad Moline, who is also the president of the Iowa turkey producers, and his daughter Ava were present for the event. Ava, who aspires to be a veterinarian and is an Iowa State fan, helped with the turkeys. Despite her allegiance to Iowa State, she was fine with naming the turkeys after a Hawkeye legend. Governor Reynolds also mentioned that she purchased a 23-pound turkey from the farm for her family’s Thanksgiving meal, which will include turkey, ham, and all the traditional sides.
