Holiday Cheer Kicks Off with Red Kettle Campaign in Cedar Rapids
CEDAR RAPIDS — As temperatures drop and holiday bells begin to ring, the spirit of giving is taking hold in Cedar Rapids. This week marked the kickoff of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign, a vital initiative aimed at supporting community services throughout the year.
Iowa’s News Now joined the effort, with WeatherFirst Meteorologists Cayson Frerichs and Rebecca Kopelman, along with anchor Nada Shamah, ringing bells at Fleet Farm on Friday. Their participation highlights the growing need for support within the community, as Lt. Marty Norris of the Salvation Army emphasized the increasing demand for their services.
"The money we raise stays in this community, funding our various programs, including social services, feeding programs, senior initiatives, and youth activities," Lt. Norris stated. "These funds are essential for our operations year-round."
This year, the Salvation Army has set an ambitious goal of $775,000 for the campaign. The funds raised will provide essential support to those in need until the next campaign starts, ensuring that the organization can continue to offer vital services to the community.
As the holiday season approaches, the need for generosity becomes more pressing. Individuals are encouraged to contribute to the Red Kettle Campaign, helping to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors during this special time of the year. Every donation, big or small, can have a significant impact, reinforcing the importance of community support in Cedar Rapids.
