Court jury in Ireland finds Conor McGregor guilty of sexually assaulting woman in 2018

[ad_1]
A woman in Dublin was awarded nearly 250,000 Euros by a civil court jury after she claimed that mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor raped and battered her in a hotel penthouse in 2018. The woman stated that the assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor denied the allegations, testifying that the encounter was consensual and accusing the woman of fabricating the story. The woman’s lawyer argued that McGregor was a coward who took out his anger on her after a previous fight loss. The woman tearfully recounted how McGregor threatened to kill her during the incident, leaving her fearing for her life and not seeing her daughter again. Police investigated the incident but declined to bring charges due to insufficient evidence.

McGregor’s lawyer urged the jury to set aside any personal animosity towards McGregor, acknowledging that some might actively dislike or loathe him. The defense presented surveillance video showing the woman kissing McGregor’s arm and hugging him after leaving the hotel room, suggesting she was happy. McGregor claimed that the encounter was athletic and consensual, and that the woman’s allegations were lies. He said that he had not answered follow-up police questions on the advice of his lawyer. Despite the verdict, McGregor has not made any comments to the media as he left court.
